GUILDERLAND, NY – Betty G. Breakell, 84, passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2008, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Middletown, NY, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Lillian Rosemund Graham. Betty lived in Middletown for most of her life before her retirement. She worked in accounting for O & W Railroad before transferring to work for the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy as a computer programmer/ systems analyst where she helped in developing one of the first computerized supply programs. As an only child, Betty enjoyed camping and fishing with her father in the Adirondacks. Betty loved tap dancing, playing chess, reading and crocheting. She was a gourmet cook and enjoyed traveling after her retirement. Betty will be remembered for her warm and welcoming eyes and especially her smile that would light up the room. She was a cousin of Susan B. Anthony, a suffragette who led the right for women voters. Betty was the beloved wife of the late Adrian J. Breakell who passed in 1976. She is the devoted mother of Walter G. Breakell and his wife, Peggy Currier of Guilderland, John F. Breakell and his wife, Lisa of Farmington, NM and Patricia B. Simmons and her husband, Neil of Middletown, NY. She is the grandmother of Walter C., Douglas A. and Christina M. Breakell, Jennifer Boognl, Jamie Kling, Kyle Edward Simmons and Venessa Cowart. Also surviving is her brother-in-law, Walter J. Breakell, III of Loudonville, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, August 30, 2008 at 12:00 p.m. at Holy Name of Jesus Church in Otisville, NY. There will be no calling hours. Interment will follow in Holy Name Cemetery following the Mass. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Schenectady, 1411 Union Street, Schenectady, NY 12308 in memory of Betty G.
