Troy- Betty L. Pompey, 69, passed away Thursday, October 29th 2015 at home after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Betty is the daughter of the late Bennie Sr. and Anna Mae Canty.
Betty was the loving wife of the late Emanuel Pompey and loving mother to the late Loretta and Robert Pompey. She is also predeceased by her siblings Dorothy Keels, Ruby Footman and Mary Canty.
Betty was born and raised in Greeleyville, SC. In her teens she moved to Baltimore, MD and later came to Troy. She retired from Honeywell after 28 years of service. She was known for her cooking and hospitality and worked for many organizations within her church (Oak Grove Baptist Church). Betty was an avid Yankees fan and was well known for her homemade barbeque sauce.
She is survived by her daughter Eleana Pompey-Allen and her son Andrew Fletcher of Washington, DC. She is also survived by her four grandchildren; EnDasia Pompey, Ayanna and Ahmad Allen and Amere Blue of Baltimore, MD. Betty also leaves behind her siblings; Thelma Rodgers(Willie), Anna Mae Canty and Bennie Canty Jr. as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday, November 4th 2015 from 9:00am-11:00am at Oak Grove Baptist Church (514 7th Avenue, Troy, NY 12182) with a service
starting at 11:00am. Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery.
