Betty Mae VanVoorhis, 85, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at St. Peters Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Betty was born in Albany to the late George and Beatrice Lehmann. Betty worked for the Division of Military of Navel affairs where she met her husband, Howard. She later worked for the town of Guilderland, Building department until her retirement. Betty was an honorary member of the Paralyzed Veterans of America. She had an ultimate respect for those who served our country. She had a love for the outdoors and enjoyed spending time at her cottage on Kinderhook Lake with her family and friends. A holiday never passed where Betty didn't send a card with a warm wish to all in her life that she loved and adored. She was a member of the McKownville United Methodist Church. Betty was predeceased by her cherished husband of over 61 years, Howard VanVoorhis. She is survived by many dear friends.
Funeral services will be Friday at 1:00pm at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie. A calling hour will precede the service from 12 to 1 at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at Elmwood Cemetery, Selkirk. Memorial contributions may be made to the Paralyzed Veterans of America, at www.pva.org in Betty's memory.
