BETTY YOUNG SALMOND
CHARLOTTE, NC
DECEMBER 3, 1936 - MAY 1, 2024
Betty Young Salmond was born in Mississippi. She was the daughter of Sherman and Maydora Young. Betty transitioned peacefully on Wednesday, May 1st in Charlotte NC surrounded by family.
Betty was preceded by her parents, Sherman and Maydora Young, grandson Victor Collier, her siblings, Alfred Young (Virginia Young), Larry Young, Natalie Haizlip (Flonzo Haizlip Sr.), Rufus Young, Roy Young, Ezeal Young (Mayzelle Young), Georgia Gibson (William Gibson). Arlene Daniels, Jeff Young, and Sandra Young and goddaughter, Sharon Combs.
Betty lived to cherish her memories with her children: Denice Young, Debra Tate, Pam Tate and stepson Anthony Jones. Her grandchildren, Qiana Johnson (Derrick Johnson), Fatima Strickland and Ahshad Strickland (Faith Strickland), her great grandchildren, Albriana Jackson, Albram Jackson (Scooby), Ah'veon Strickland, Shneecka Commithier, Shi'onti Commithier, Qiana Commithier, Isaiah Collier, Qimora Johnson, Andrea Commithier, Journei Collier, Caleb Collier, and Gabriel Collier. Her great-great grandchildren, Preston Strickland, Ahshad Strickland Jr, Ah'Jour Sims, Ohana Strickland, Da'shaun Strickland and Zara Commithier.
Betty worked at the New York State Health Department for 35 years and then moved to Florence, South Carolina to enjoy her retirement years. She was a long-standing member at Union Missionary Baptist Church. She leaves behind her husband, Eugene Salmond, her sister, Diane Smith, brother-in-law, Kirk Daniels, sister-in-law, Gloria Clark-Young, grand-daughter-inlaw Kimberly Collier and cousin Rose Bland and her favorite niece Lisa Young Davis (Paul Davis) (Kyrie Davis) and a host of other family members.
Betty was a loving and caring soul, who will be truly missed by all. Her light always shined bright whenever; she entered the room. Her family is comforted in knowing that the Lord called her home and welcomed her into his arms on that glorious day.
Her favorite scripture is from Psalms: 23:6 "Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever."
