Beulah A. Watrous

d. December 17, 2008

ALBANY Beulah Agnes Powers Watrous, 84, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at her home with her granddaughter Leslie by her side. Born in Vergennes, VT, she was the daughter of the late Robert Powers and Agnes Powers Sansone and stepdaughter of the late Anthony Sansone. After nearly 60 years of marriage, her husband Harold Watrous passed away in 2005.
Bea was a dedicated employee of Albany Medical Center Hospital where she began her career in 1954 as a receptionist and quickly advanced to purchasing agent before her retirement in 1984. In their golden years she and Harold enjoyed traveling, whale watching, antiquing, picnics, apple picking and visiting family throughout the northeast. An accomplished baker, Bea was famous for her cheesecake, but what she prepared most often was the apple pudding recipe that her husband enjoyed so much. Her personal interests were swimming, crossword puzzles, reading (she loved mysteries) and all things Irish. She often made sure that other people's needs were met before her own. She took great joy and pride in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A devout Catholic, she was a long time communicant and a Eucharistic minister of St. Teresa of Avila Church, where she worshiped daily for more than 30 years. She loved being a lector and was a very active member of the Altar-Rosary Society. She was faithful to her friends, giving to people in need and was endeared by all who knew her.
Bea was the loving grandmother of Laura (Gregory) Smith, Leslie Lucas, Joseph (Stacie) Watrous and Hal Watrous III. She was the cherished "Grammie" of Catherine and Zachary Lucas and Hannah Smith. She is survived by her dear brother James Powers and niece Mary-Rose (David) Foster, to whom Bea played a very special role on the day of her birth. In addition to the many nieces and nephews she leaves behind, Bea will be sadly missed by her friends and neighbors. Heartfelt thanks to Michele who cared for her with unfailing dedication and love; and to friends Jean and Dorothy who helped lift her spirits and were frequent visitors in her final days.
She was predeceased by her brothers Mark and Robert Powers and sisters Margaret Dunn, Kate Dingman and Betty Day; as well as her beloved sons, Harold Jr. and Joseph, with whom we believe she has been reunited. May she rest in peace and be surrounded by the angels.
A celebration of Bea's life will be held at St. Teresa of Avila Church on Monday morning. The viewing will be at the church from 9 to 10 am on Monday followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:15. Interment will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery.
At Beulah's request, Memorial contributions may be made to the Community Hospice of Albany, 445 New Karner Rd. Albany NY 12205. To leave a special message for the family visit NewcomerAlbany.com
