Cohoes – Sardar Bhupinder Singh Salva, 73, passed peacefully at Samaritan Hospital in the early morning on February 15, 2025.

Born in New Delhi, India on July 7, 1951, Sardar Bhupinder Singh Salva was the son of Sardar Harbans Singh Salva & Sardarni Harbans Kaur Salva. For the last several years, he has resided in the capital district, and had an exceptional career as an Electrical Engineer with the New York State Office of General Services (OGS) as a contractor before retiring from service last year. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering in India.

Sardar Bhupinder Singh Salva was a dedicated and humble member of the Sikh Sadh Sangat at the Guru Nanak Darbar Gurdwara Sahib (Temple), and a respected friend and mentor to everyone. His love for everyone and the wisdom he imparted will remain with us for all time. He was known to everyone as a dearest, dedicated, honest & humble member of the Sikh Sadh Sangat at the Gurdwara Sahib, and was a life-long friend to many of us. He was especially fond of the children and youth at the Gurdwara Sahib, and was instrumental in promoting several religious and social programs and activities for these young members of the Sadh Sangat. His loving smile and cheerfulness will never be forgotten, and he shall always remain as an inspiring figure for our local Sikh religious community in the capital region. 

Sardar Bhupinder Singh Salva is survived by his sisters, Parveen Kaur Chani and Sunita Walia, who live in the Boston area, and his nephew and nieces. He was pre-deceased by his beloved son in India, Sardar Charanjeev Singh Salva.

Viewing hours will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Rd., Watervliet, NY on Monday, February 24, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Shabad Kirtan will be performed at this service in sweet memory of Salva Ji, concluding with prayers.

Funeral and cremation services will be held the next day, Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at the Gardner Earl Chapel and Crematory, 186 Oakwood Avenue, Troy, NY 12180, starting at 12:00 PM. After cremation, all are invited to proceed to the Guru Nanak Darbar Gurdwara Sahib (Sikh Temple), 1944 Union Street, Niskayuna, NY 12309. There will be a special program of Allaniaha Da Paath, Shabad Kirtan, and Antam Ardaas at this service, followed by Guru Ka Langar (community meal) by the Salva family, in sweet memory of Sardar Bhupinder Singh Salva.
