GUILDERLAND- Blair M. Steele Jr. 94 passed away peacefully with family at his side Friday.
Born in Sterling Ill on August 7, 1921, he was the son of Blair M. Steele Sr. and Anne O'Meara Steele.
He was predeceased by his wife, Rena, in 2008. He is survived by his children David K. Steele of Sacramento CA. and Serena A. Trombley (Jeff) of Guilderland NY., his grandchildren Stephen (Jillian), Andrew, Cassandra and his great grandchildren Thaddeus and Rena. He is also survived by his brother William C. Blair was a WWII veteran of the US Navy. He served as a Motor Machinist's Mate First Class on the USS LST-174 assigned to the European-African theatre and also to the US Naval Base on Enewetak Atoll in the Asiatic-Pacific theatre.
After his discharge, Blair attended Paul Smith's College and American International College where he received his degree in Business Administration.
Soon afterward he met and married the love of his life Rena. They loved and enjoyed each other for 54 years devoting themselves to their family. The highlight of their lives was traveling to visit their grandchildren and great grandchild.
Blair was an avid golfer for most of his life. He took up the sport as a teenager and played until a few years ago. He continued to go to the course to visit his buddies, discuss their rounds and "coach them" as he would put it. He shares the passion for golf with his son David, and discussing the game always brought a smile to his face.
He also loved to watch his son-in-law Jeff race at the Fonda and Albany Saratoga speedways. When he couldn't attend, the first question on Sunday was "How did Jeff do last night?". He would often stop by the garage to share his latest joke and give the guys a chuckle.
