Troy - Brian C. Murphy entered into the Kingdom of Heaven on April 21, 2016, at his home surrounded by his family. Brian was born in Bronx, New York, on December 26, 1935 to the late Francis and Agnes (Conway) Murphy.
He moved to Albany to attend college at SUNY Albany and received a Bachelor of Arts degree with a teaching certificate in English and Social Studies. During this time he was also serving in the U.S. Army as a Military Police Officer. He went on to work for New York State, retiring in 1996 from the Taxation and Finance Department after thirty-three years of service.
Brian enjoyed his retirement attending mass every morning, helping to take care of his oldest grandson, and watching Yankees baseball and Notre Dame football. He was devoted to his family, God, and his fellow man. In his spare time he took long walks, read books on Ireland, and would have a libation with friends telling stories of his life while sharing his unique and joyful laugh.
Brian is preceded in death by his wife Catherine "Katy" (Rogan) Murphy, his siblings Francis, Kevin, and James Murphy, and his son Kevin Damien.
He is survived by his sister Karen (Vincent) Cunniffe, daughter Shannon (Kenneth) Iannone, two grandsons Riley and Cullen, and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Palliative Care Services at the VNS of Northeastern New York, and the providers at Home Medical Administrative Associates.
Friends and family are welcome to call on April 29th at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, NY 12205 between the hours of 5:00 and 7:00 pm. A Mass of Chrisitian Burial will follow on April 30th 10:00 am at St. Anthony's of Padua, Troy.
