Watervliet- Brian P.Van Wormer, 73, peacefully passed away on Monday, August 14, 2017. Brian was the son of the late George and Marjorie Van Wormer and was the devoted husband of 31 years to Helen Van Wormer.
Brian grew up in Rensselaer, joined the Air Force in 1961, served through 1967, and during this time was stationed in Crete, Greece and served his country in the Vietnam war.
Brian was a born entrepreneur, starting his managerial career at Grand Union, and over his lifetime owned many businesses including landscaping, excavating, retail clothing and taxidermy. He gave back to the community by volunteering at the Rensselaer Boys Club and the North Colonie Ambulance Squad as a paramedic for more than 20 years. He was also actively involved on the boards of many associations.
He was an avid outdoorsman, with his passion for hunting and fishing taking him to all parts of the world including South Africa and Brazil. This led him to start his own business, Outdoor Destinations, to arrange hunting trips throughout the world.
Brian's love of history and travel took him and his wife, Helen, to historical museums, forts, parks and monuments across the US and in other countries including China and the Canadian Provinces.
Some of his friends called him "the most interesting man in the world" as conversations would lead to long discussions about his many jobs, interests, hobbies and achievements.
