ROTTERDAM – Brian W. Niclas, 65, passed away on Friday, May 11, 2012 at home surrounded by his loving family after a long illness. Born in Jamaica, Long Island and a Rotterdam resident of 42 years, he was the son of the late Peter and Mary Niclas.
Brian, or more commonly known by his grandchildren and great-grandson as "Pop-Pop," was a Vietnam Marine Corps veteran who honorably received a Purple Heart medal. He worked for the General Electric Company for 36 years. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, and camping. His greatest love was spending time with his family.
Along with his parents, Brian was predeceased by his brother, Pete Niclas.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Lynn (Zyskowski)Niclas; children Kim (Michael) Johnson, Tania Niclas, and Eric (Liz) Niclas; grandchildren Alyssa Friguletto and Selena and Daric Niclas; great-grandson son Julian Gnidowski; two nieces; three great-nieces and one great-nephew.
A Memorial service will be held on Tuesday at 12:30 pm at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Memorial calling hours will precede the service from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm at the funeral home. Entombment of ashes will be at the convenience of the family. In place of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to charity of one's choice in Brian's name.
