LOUDONVILLE – C. Eugene Hart, 84, of Loudonville, passed away on Friday August 10, 2007 at his residence. He was born in Eaton, OH and had served as a sergeant in the US Army during World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater.
Gene received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Earlham College and a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from Rose Polytechnic Institute, both in Indiana. He joined General Electric Company in 1949 as a test engineer in Fort Wayne, IN, and subsequently held various managerial positions in company plants in Cleveland; Toledo, Ohio; Detroit, MI; Campinas, San Paulo, Brazil, S.A., and Erie, PA before coming to Schenectady in 1972. He retired from the Schenectady Headquarters in 1985.
He was a registered engineer in Indiana, Ohio and Michigan and belonged to the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers
As a member of the Schuyler Meadows Club, Gene enjoyed tennis, golf and paddle tennis, and the many friendships he developed there. He was an avid woodworker and worked many hours in his yard. Also, many of his retirement years were spent at his 200-acre farm in New Hampshire, where he built a home incorporating a grain silo with three floors of living space and a circular stairway.
Gene was married for 57 years to his beloved wife, Frances Albin Hart. He was the devoted father of Paul J. Hart (Pamela), Topsfield, MA; Gary M. Hart, Louisville, KY; Douglas A. Hart, San Diego, CA; Karen H. Ford (John), South Hadley, MA and John P. Hart (Dawn), Cicero, NY. His pride and joy were his grandchildren, Rory, Lara and Jonathan Hart; Kristi, Courtney and Kevin Hart; Cameron, Collin, Austin and Aislinn Ford.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial celebration at the family's home in Loudonville on Thursday at 4 PM.
A private graveside service will be held in Hopkinton, NH, at a later date.
