Celebrating A Life Well Lived

The Right Reverend Calvert Bowie went home to be with the Lord on August 4th,2020. He fought the good fight, he kept the faith, and he finished his course.

Pastor Bowie was born on October 7th, 1948 in Bronx, New York. He was the second youngest of 7 children born to Edward and Edith (Jones) Bowie. He attended Bernard M. Baruch College, City University of New York graduating with a Bachelor of Business Administration/Accounting. In 1978 he relocated to Schenectady, New York where he started his position as Chief of Nuclear Materials and Property Administration for the United States Department of Energy (Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory). After 36 years of government service Calvert Bowie retired in January 2006.

Reverend Bowie joined Refreshing Springs Church of God in Christ in 1978. He accepted the call to Ministry and began to preach the Gospel in September of 1979. In 1987 Reverend Calvert Bowie was ordained to the Ministry in Church of God in Christ-First Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of Western New York under the late Bishop Leroy Anderson.

Reverend Bowie met Evangelist Missionary First Lady Sabrina Bowie at Refreshing Springs COGIC and they were later married on April 8, 1995. They have shared Agape Love over the last 25 years. First Lady Bowie has supported Pastor Bowie in all he has done during his many years in ministry. As his wife First Lady Bowie had an important role in the church and in the life of the Pastor. She often kept her Pastors long hours, shouldered his pressures and felt his joys and disappointments as deeply as he did. When he fell ill, she was his caretaker in every way until the very end.

On June 22,2007, the late Bishop James Gaylord, Prelate of the 1st Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of Eastern New York Church of God in Christ appointed Elder Calvert Bowie as Pastor of Arbor Hill Arbor Hill Church of God in Christ. The installation service was held on April 19,2008. He held this position until he entered his eternal rest. Under his leadership in 2010 he founded the Lenon D. Moore Bible Institute where he taught the word of the Lord. The church continues to grow in the ministry and he was grateful to God for serving as Pastor of the Arbor Hill COGIC kingdom building and lifting up the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.

Reverend Bowie enjoyed bird watching. He was also very fond of ducks. One of his favorite things to do was prepare his messages. Not surprising considering he was so good at it. Traveling with his wife and family gave him an abundance of joy and memories. Reverend Bowie was not really into sports, but he liked watching boxing matches and the occasional Sunday football game with his son in-law. He lived a fulfilled and loving life. Reverend Bowie often mentioned his favorite scripture Hebrew 12:2 which reads "Looking unto Jesus the Author and Finisher of our Faith." . "He was a good man, full of the Holy Ghost and much people were added unto the Lord" Acts 2:4. He was much loved, admired and respected and will be greatly missed until we see him again.
