Schenectady- Captain Jack (John) Bussey, 79, passed away on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at his home with his loving wife by his side. He was the son of the late George and Mary Grace Harrigan Bussey. Jack was the devoted husband to Madonna W. Bussey for 58 years.
After graduating from Catholic Central High School, Jack went on to work in construction for Albany Crane Service, Niagara Mohawk, and Brookfield Hydro Power until his retirement in 2000. Jack enjoyed spending time on Lake Ontario. He secured his Captain's license after completing the US Coast Guard requirements. He chartered on Lake Ontario and Lake Champlain as owner and operator of J and D Charters for many years. He was also an owner and trainer of many successful harness horses that he raced at Saratoga Harness and various other tracks.
He was an avid lover of golden retrievers and trained highly successful hunting dogs, Hoya, Corey, and Hunter, who he has joined in heaven. He leaves behind his faithful and loving dog, Zipper.
Jack will be remembered for his beautiful gardens, a sense of humor and quick wit that was able to make anyone smile. He will be missed by all those who have had the pleasure of meeting him, leaving a memorable impact on the lives of all those he loved, and who truly loved him.
In addition to his wife, Jack is survived by his sisters, Catherine Ann (Fred) Keaney, from San Diego, CA, Rose Marie Bussey, from Weymouth, MA, and Mary Susan Bussey, from San Diego, CA; and 12 nieces, nephews, as well as many faithful friends near and far.
Calling hours will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Rd., Watervliet, New York on Sunday October 9, 2022, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 pm.
