LATHAM--Carl Frederick Brockenauer, 72, a man of faith and family, entered into eternal life on January 6, 2007 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Carl was born in New York City on July 22, 1934 to the late Anna and Carl Brockenauer. He was the beloved husband for 46 years of Eileen Storen Brockenauer; loving father to his two daughters Anne Marie Brockenauer and Patricia Brockenauer Sheppard; dear father-in-law to Daniel Sheppard; very proud "Papa" to his grandson Joseph Sheppard; and loved by his sister T. Susann Demay, and brothers- and sisters-in law Eileen and Dennis Storen, Lucille and George Ullman and John Storen, and six nephews and their families. A Korean War veteran, Carl served in the United States Navy from 1952 to 1960. He received undergraduate and graduate degrees from the City University of New York, Hunter College, followed by a distinguished civilian career highlighted by positions with the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency, the New York Central Railroad, and the New York Telephone Company/Verizon. Carl loved gardening, fine scale modeling, fishing and the Washington Redskins. He had a special place in his heart for animals in need of a home, and leaves his faithful felines Casper and Oliver. Carl's life-long commitment to others was highlighted by his service as a 4th degree Knight of Columbus as well as service in his Church and the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, January 10, 2007 at 9:00 am at the Church of Saint Ambrose, 347 Old Loudon Road, Latham, N.Y. A chapel prayer service will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Valhalla, NY .
