Carl W. Nantista, 67, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his own home on Monday May 30, 2022, after a long courageous battle with ALS. He was comforted by his family during his last days and will be remembered as a devoted and loving partner, wonderful brother and uncle, an unforgettable friend and the most compassionate "Santa".
As a graduate from the Vincentian Institute in 1973 and Hudson Valley Community College in 1975, Carl spent 38 years working for Jacoby/Marcone appliance parts, 3 years driving a school bus for North Colonie Central School District as well as 23 years with Albany Police Pipes & Drums (8 as a pipe major). For 51 years he spread Christmas joy to countless children and families by playing Santa Claus for various organizations.
Carl was predeceased by his loving parents, Elizabeth and Peter J. Nantista Sr., and brother Peter J. Nantista Jr.
Left to cherish his memory, his dearest partner Fran O'Connor, siblings, Phyllis, Susan and Mary Frances Nantista, Lucian (Cindy) Nantista, Elizabeth (Carmine) Ruggiero, Angele (Jimmy) Dix, stepchildren Tindara, Sean and Annette, as well as his nephews and friends.
A visitation will be held on Sunday June 5th from 1pm-4pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd, Colonie NY 12205, with a service immediately following at 4pm.
In lieu of flowers, Carl has requested donations be made in his honor to St. Peter's ALS Regional Center at 19 Warehouse Row, Albany NY 12205.
The family would like to extend a personal thank you the Community Hospice team, the ALS Center staff, and Dr. Oldendorf and his medical team.
