Carmelo Cannistraci

COLONIE – Carmelo Cannistraci, 84, passed away suddenly on Monday, August 05, 2013, with his loving family by his side. Born in Sicily, Italy he was the son of the late Joseph and Concetta Cannistraci. Mr. Cannistraci resided in Colonie for many years. Carmelo worked in construction for many years then worked for Freihofer Baking Company for fifteen years before he retired. He was an avid vegetable gardener, enjoyed working around his home doing repairs and tending to his lawn. He especially enjoyed playing cards with his friends every week.


Carmelo is the beloved husband of nearly fifty-seven years to Frances (Aveni) Cannistraci. He is the devoted father of Joseph Cannistraci and the cherished grandfather of Gabriella Cannistraci both of Clifton Park. Carmelo is the loving brother of Angela Saporita of Switzerland and the late Francesca Meo, Santa Maiorana, Maria Elaqua, Santo, Alberto and Antonino Cannistraci. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.


Funeral services will be Thursday morning at 10:15 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.) then to Christ Our Light Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Memory Gardens, Colonie. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 445 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205 in memory of Carmelo Cannistraci.
