ALBANY – Carmen J. Prinzo Sr., 70, of Albany, passed away on Monday May 29, 2006 at his residence , surrounded by his loving family. He died as a result of mesothelioma, a rare form of lung cancer. Carmen was born in Jersey Shore, PA and was the son of the late Joseph and Anna Tenenini Prinzo. Carmen was a 1954 graduate of Albany High School and was quarterback of the football team. He served in the US Navy from 1954 to 1956.
Carmen established Prinzo's Bakery in 1960 on Grand Street in Albany. Along with his family, Prinzo's Bakery has grown to it's current location on Delaware Ave. and is proudly serving the Capital Region community for 46 years. Carmen had also operated Carmen's Tavern on New Scotland Ave during the 1970's. He was a hard working, generous and charitable man. Carmen will be remembered for his warm kindness, humble demeanor and his unique sense of humor. An avid horse racing enthusiast, Carmen, was a harness race horse owner and every August he could be found at his favorite spot, the flat track.
He is the beloved husband of fifty one years to Rosalie Porcello Prinzo. Beloved father of Carmen J. Prinzo Jr. (Judy), Teresa M. Husson (late Paul), Anthony J. Prinzo and Anna M. Prinzo all of Albany, Lori J. Johnson (Matt) of San Diego, CA., and Joseph A. Prinzo (Philomena) of East Greenbush. He is the devoted brother of Rocco Prinzo (Rita) of Schodack and Joanne Landers (Joseph) of Colonie. Cherished grandfather of Leeann, Kathleen, Dallas and Dr. Paul Husson; Peter Catalano, Michael Novotny, Katelyn, Cory, Nicolas and Tyler Prinzo. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friend Kathleen Monaco.
Funeral services will be Saturday morning at 8:30 at NewComer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie (Rt 155-south of Central Ave) then to St. Teresa of Avila Church at 9:30 where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 8 pm at the funeral home. Entombment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Newcomerfamily.com
