COLONIE – Carmen Saglimbeni, 80, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at The Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Carmen was born on November 18, 1929 in Limina, Sicily and was the son of the late Guiseppe and Venera (Bartolotta) Saglimbeni. He came to the US at the age of 18 and was a tailor, self-employed and then later working for the Boston Store in Latham before retiring in 1982. He enjoyed spending time with his family, camping, gardening, fishing, vacationing in Florida, and especially enjoyed hot peppers, provolone cheese, Italian bread, and a glass of wine. He was a member of the Kuhn Senior Center where he enjoyed playing pool and a member of the Italian American Community Center and the American-Italian Heritage Club.
Carmen is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Catherine (DiCioccio) Saglimbeni; his loving daughters, Maryanne B. (Les) Coumbes of Colonie, Roseanne (Steven) Kwarta of Colonie, and Nancy (Bruce) Schwendinger of Clifton Park; his cherished grandchildren, Matthew (Lauren) Zych, Adrienne (Neil Bhatiya) Zych, Andrew Zych, Matthew, Brian, Peter and Andrea Coumbes, Stefanie, Adam, Diana, Elizabeth and Carmela Kwarta, Mark and Rachel Schwendinger; his sister, Nina Coglitore of Sicily and several nieces and nephews.
The family extends a special thank you to all the nurses and support staff at the Hospice Inn.
Funeral services will be held at 8:45 a.m. Saturday at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie then to Christ Our Light Catholic Church, Loudonville where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Entombment will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery in Menands. Calling hours will be held on Friday (today) from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter's Hospice Inn, 315 So. Manning Blvd, Albany, NY 12208 in memory of Carmen Saglimbeni.
