Colonie – Carmine DeStefano, 93, of Colonie, passed away suddenly on Wednesday March 20, 2013 at Ellis Hospital. He was born in Ardsley on the Putnam, NY and was the son of the late Dominic and Mary Severino DeStefano. He was predeceased in January of 2013 by his beloved wife of 59 years, Anna M. DeStefano.
Carmine was a decorated WWII Army veteran and a distinguished recipient of the Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. He had been a Colonie resident for over 55 years. Along with his wife, they had owned the Friendly Tavern and Carm's Place in Colonie. Carmine was an avid golfer. He had owned race horses and enjoyed time at the track. Carm had a unique ability to tell a story and could engage anyone in conversation. His sense of humor always left a lasting impression. He was a longtime member and former President of the Albany County Restaurant and Tavern Association.
He is survived by his daughters, Barbara Ann Stevens of White Lake, MI., Carmina Marie (Thomas) Miller of Clifton Park and Carol Ann DeStefano (Ralph Squailia) of Clifton Park. He is the brother of Albert (Laura) DeStefano, Jean Merriman, Gloria Duchin and the late Grace Jewels, Frank, Daniel and Edward DeStefano. He is the grandfather of Anthony, Shawn, Christopher, Kevin and Daniel. Great grandfather of Jayden and Lily. Several nieces, nephews and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be Tuesday morning at 11:00 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie. Visitation will be Tuesday from 10 am to 11 am at the funeral home. Interment will be in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
