Carney R. Brown

June 7, 1959 — October 17, 2020

Troy - Carney R. Brown, 61, of Troy, NY entered eternal life at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital on Saturday, October 17, 2020 after a courageous fourteen year battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family and friends. Born in Petersburg, VA on June 7, 1959, Carney was the son of the late Russell and Alberta (Pryor) Brown.

Carney received his Christian education at Bethel Baptist Church and was a faithful member for most of his earthly life. He humbly served God as an usher. He attended Troy High School and Hudson Valley Community College. He took to sports in his youth especially the game of baseball. Carney loved all things baseball and passed this down to his children and grandchildren. His adoration for baseball was known by many throughout Troy. In 2017, he was inducted into the Central Little League Baseball Hall of Fame. Later in life, one of his great pleasures was attending his grandchildren's softball games and giving them tips to improve their skills.

For 30 years, Carney was employed at Everett Charles Technologies in Clifton Park, a manufacturer and distributor of electrical testing equipment, where he served as a shift supervisor. He was well liked and respected by his peers and colleagues.

"Connie"; "CB" or "Poppa", as he was known to family and friends, was a devoted father, grandfather, brother and friend to all. Steadfast in his love for his family, he was often found surrounded by the love of his family and friends. He was laid back and always willing to help those in need. Whether it was teaching a child baseball or fixing a car, he always gave back to his family and friends. He was a quiet soul, and his compassion and loyalty rang loudly. He was always kind to everyone he met.

He cherished his prize possession, a baby blue 1970 convertible Oldsmobile 442 Cutlass Supreme. In his later days, he enjoyed restoring the "442" and joy rides through the city. During these drives, it was not unusual for people to stop him to admire his vintage treasure and share stories.

Carney was a devout Washington Redskins fan. He was an enthusiast of music, especially the genre of Jazz and enjoyed attending the SPAC Jazz Festival. He could often be found working on cars with his father, brothers or children.

He leaves to cherish his memory four children, Dante Brown (James) of Nottingham MD, Justin Brown, Erica Vanderwarker (Kevin), Erick Serrano all of Troy, NY; four grandchildren, Mason, Jacob and Everly Vanderwarker and Carter Brown; his siblings, Larry (Desmond) of Glen Falls, NY, Sandra, Ronnie (Brenda) of Troy, NY, Carolyn of Hopewell, VA, Wyatt Kingston and Russelyn (Gerald) Smith of Richmond VA, Doris Mason of Fayetteville, NC, David and Michelle of Troy, NY; Kimberly of Schenectady, NY. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins, and his long-time friends, Janice Bagarose, Jose Rosa and Earl Everett. Carney was predeceased in death by his wife Joanne (DelCogliano) Brown.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital for their support, compassion and excellent care of our father Carney.
