Carol Moore Carter, affectionately known to friends and family as Peggy, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 10, 2023 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peters Hospital with her loving friends and family by her side. Peggy was born on August 1, 1934 and was the daughter of the late Foster and Dealia Moore.
Peggy devoted her life to helping others by working as a Social Worker in Rochester, New York. She moved to Albany in 1982 and worked as a Child Protective Specialist within the N.Y.S. Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment until her retirement.
Peggy was a true unionist. She was a dedicated leader and member of the Public Employees Federation. She served in several elected positions, as Council Leader, Executive Board Member, and on various committee. She was instrumental in establishing PEF's Women's Committee. She mentored and taught many about their union and union participation. She was an active member of the Albany Chapter of the Black Caucus and a proud member of the First United Presbyterian Church.
Peggy had a huge heart for the people she loved. She valued her family and friends. Peggy enjoyed spending time with her friends, traveling, and listening to Jazz music. She loved animals and had many pets during her lifetime. Peggy was truly one of a kind in every way, from her personality and quick wit, to the way she dressed. She had a true eye for fashion.
Peggy is survived by her daughter, Keanya Moore Meyers; granddaughter (adopted daughter) Fostera Moore; goddaughter, Angela Poles; her close friends, Cheryl Cannon, Renee Fields, Maritza Krasnopolski, LaVonne Barnaby and family and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Calling hours will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Road, Watervliet, New York on Monday, August 21, 2023 from 1 to 2pm with a funeral service to begin at 2pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Peggy's name to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave, Menands, NY 12204.
