Carolyn A. Cookingham, 83, it is with heavy hearts we would like to share the passing of our beloved Carolyn, on Saturday, April 1, 2023 peacefully with her loving family by her side.
Carolyn was born in New York City, the daughter of the late Vinson and Elizabeth (Maxwell) Newman. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Herman Vincent Cookingham who passed away 49 years ago.
She was raised in Pomona New York at the Happy Valley School with all three of her siblings. She graduated from Spring Valley High.
Carolyn worked for New York State Telephone Company and retired from New York State Department of Tax & Finance after 20 plus years.
She was bright, beautiful and talented. She had a marvelous and witty sense of humor. She enjoyed writing poetry and was very artistic. She had a life long love of music playing her organ by ear. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and would never pass up a card game of rummy. She was generous and kind. Carolyn loved life. She will be deeply missed by friends and family.
In addition to her parents and her husband she was predeceased by her two brothers.
Carolyn is survived by her precious and devoted daughter, Heather L. (George Rourke, whom Carolyn adored) Cookingham, her son Todd Cookingham, her sister Evelyn Rosenstein, her granddaughter Megan (Pierre) Millett and grandson Tyler Miller. Survived by several more grandchildren, four great grandchildren and one more expected in June.
Calling hours will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Rd., Watervliet, NY on Wednesday April 5, 2023 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. A funeral service will follow the calling hours at 6:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be private.
