Carolyn A. Hoag

January 22, 1942 — March 20, 2024

Carolyn Hoag, loving wife of David for nearly 60 years, and mother to Elizabeth (Scott) Emerson, was called home by the Lord on March 20, 2024 at Daughters of Sarah Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was the daughter of the late Frank and Agnes Maresca. Her beloved brother Stewart also predeceased her. She was the cherished grandmother to Richie (Jenny), Eric, and Carter, and great-grandmother to Maxine and Kai.
She walked a faithful and humble Christian life for her 82 years. She believed in the inherent good and decency of all people, and this mindset, as well as her positive and faithful actions, inspired others to do the same.

Carolyn's was a life filled by helping others through education. Carolyn taught elementary school for over 30 years before retiring from the Highland Central School District. She believed that the ability to read was the skill that could open endless doors of opportunity for her students, and she worked tirelessly to educate, support, and guide each child entrusted to her care.

A communicant of Latham Community Baptist Church, Carolyn taught Sunday School, as well as Vacation Bible School during the summer. She also served on various committees within the Church.

An avid reader, Carolyn would often stay up late at night to finish a book that she just couldn't put down. Her Bible was always by her side, and she loved reading from the Anne of Green Gables series, as well as the work of Jane Austen. She loved birds, growing flowers at home, and her pets, usually rescue dogs, throughout her life. Carolyn enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, each night, with her husband David, and loved her desserts.

Carolyn's family would like to thank Daughters of Sarah for the wonderfully compassionate care she received. The staff went out of their way to make Carolyn and her family feel loved and supported.

Her family will hold a private graveside service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Carolyn's memory to Latham Community
Baptist Church, 109 Forts Ferry Road, Latham, NY 12110.
