NEWTONVILLE – Carrie Hosanna Robinson Freeman Simms, 78, passed away early Friday morning in her home. She was born in Sumter, S.C., to David and Louise Tindell Robinson on January 27, 1932.
She is a graduate of the former Brooklyn Jewish Hospital School of Nursing and Empire State College. She was a registered nurse at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady for many years. She also taught the licensed practical nurse program at the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam for 13 years, retiring in 1990.
Mrs. Simms was a member of Friendship Baptist Church, New York State United Teachers, the New York State Nurses Association and many other social organizations.
She was predeceased by her first husband, McCalvin E. Freeman Sr., and her beloved poodle, Apricot.
Survivors include her husband, H. Noble Simms; four children, Michele L. Freeman of Denver, Adrienne C. Freeman of Menands, Carolyn (Peter) Swasey of Londonderry, N.H., and McCalvin E. (Lori) Freeman Jr. of Airmont; five grandchildren, Justin Freeman of Menands, and Taylor, Ashlee, Caylin and Blair Swasey, all of Londonderry; a sister, Gloria Gamble of San Diego; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services will be held at 12:00 noon Tuesday at Friendship Baptist Church, 409 Union St., Schenectady. Calling hours will precede the service Tuesday 10:00am to 12:00 noon.
Burial will follow in Memory's Garden, Colonie.
Donations may be made in her name to the American Diabetes Association.
