Colonie- Casimir P. Galka, 89, died suddenly on Sunday, February 4, 2007, at Albany Memorial Hospital. Born in Albany he was the son of the late Alexander and Stephany Galka. A military veteran Casimir served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He worked for Tobin Packing Company for over 33 years, retiring in 1979. Casimir was predeceased by his wife of 57 years Sophie J. Galka and five brothers and sisters. An avid gardener, he spent many summers tending to his gardens. Casimir also loved animals, adopting a number of dogs from the Mohawk and Hudson River Humane Society.
Casimir is the beloved father of Casmir W. Galka and his wife Anita of Latham and Steven J. Galka of Colonie and the cherished grandfather of Kimberly Galka and Christine (John) Piscitella. He is also survived by his brother Theodore Galka.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:00 AM at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.). Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mohawk and Hudson River Humane Society, Oakland Avenue, Menands, NY 12204, in memory of Casimir P. Galka.
