TROY - Catherine "Kay" M. Rivest, 79, entered into eternal life on Saturday, November 25, 2006 after a long illness at the Evergreen Commons in East Greenbush, surrounded by her loving family.
Catherine was born on January 28, 1927 in Troy and was the daughter of the late Joseph F. and Catherine Sauerzopf Beidl. She was a Troy resident her entire life. She graduated from the Brady Maternity Hospital in Albany in August of 1947.
Catherine worked as a companion and home health aid for many years, a job she truly loved. She also worked at the Cluett and Peabody, the Y.W.C.A. in their Kiddie Korral and at Samaritan Hospital in the admitting office and was a baby nurse at Vanderheyden Hall, all in Troy. She was a member of the Watervliet and Cohoes Senior Citizens.
Catherine loved her grandchildren dearly. She enjoyed gardening and cooking and the companionship of her "Kitty".
Catherine is the mother of Judith L. Zauner and her husband Thomas of Gansevoort and Timothy G. Rivest of Troy. She is also the sister of Rose B. Humphreys of Forest Hills, MD and John R. (Flo) Beidl of Raleigh, NC and the grandmother of Heather Lynn Rivest, and Adam T. and Luke T. Zauner. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 29 years, Oliver J. Rivest, her son, Stanley J. Rivest and her brother, Joseph F. Beidl.
Catherine's family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Burke and the staff of Evergreen Commons for the special care and comfort they gave to Catherine.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.). Calling hours will precede the service from 4 to 7 p.m. A private burial will take place at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Waterford at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ronald McDonald House of Albany, Attn: Sharon Randall, 139 South Lake Avenue, Albany, NY 12208 in memory of Catherine M. Rivest.
