Colonie- Catherine "Kate" M. Fontanelli, passed away on February 25, 2016 at Albany Medical Center. She was 84 years old.
The daughter of the late Charles and Edith (La Chapel) Scott, Kate was born on August 5, 1931 in Albany, NY. She came from a family of 12. She was married to Joseph Fontanelli in 1947 at St. Anthony's Church in Albany. Kate attended Maria College. She worked for almost 30 years for the City of Albany Assessor's office.
Kate was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. Kate was an amazing cook and envied for her "famous" rice pudding. She had a great sense of humor and a sparky personality. Kate looked at life through the eyes of a child and was fun loving. She sacrificed for her children; there were many times "her plate was empty." She raised 2 more unfortunate children close to her that were not her own, to give them a better future. She was devoted to her entire family and will be dearly missed by all who loved her.
Kate is survived by her loving husband of 68 years Joseph Fontanelli; her children: Diane Mary Fontanelli and her husband who Kate called her "other son" Harold LaMountain, Joseph Fontanelli and Anthony Fontanelli; her grandchildren: Chad LaMountain (and his fiancé Trisha Higgins), Joseph S. Fontanelli, Kristina Fontanelli, Stephen Fontanelli, Jessica and Marissa Fontanelli; her great-grandchildren: RoseMary, Harold, III, Sophia and Madison LaMountain; her sisters-in-law: Dorothy Semeraro and Dolores (Anthony) Ramundo; her brother-in-law Vincent Fontanelli and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Kate is also survived by her beloved dog and companion Buster. Kate's family wishes to express their gratitude to Pat, who took such wonderful care of Mom when she needed it.
In addition to her parents, Kate was predeceased by her 11 brothers and sisters and 4 brother and sisters-in-law.
Visitation will be held from 5 pm to 8 pm on Thursday, March 3 at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 am on Friday, March 4 at Historic St. Mary's Church, Albany. Burial will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
