SLINGERLANDS - Catherine Augustine Porrier "Cap" Forshay of Beverwyck, Slingerlands, formerly of Garden City, passed away peacefully on Thursday October 24, 2013, of natural causes at the age of 94. Having recently celebrated her seventieth wedding anniversary, she was the devoted wife of Robert Field Forshay, and loving mother to Robert Forshay Jr. (Janie), Ann Breaznell (Gene), Peter Forshay (Christy) and John Forshay (Kim). In addition she is survived by ten grandchildren, Chris Forshay (Emily), Beth Forshay Coggins (Steven), Peter Forshay, Susan Breaznell Zimber (Josh), Catherine (Dee) Forshay, Laura Forshay, Betsy Breaznell, Danielle Forshay, Amy Forshay, and Bradley Forshay, and three great-granchildren, Marley, Miles and Ellis Forshay.
Cap graduated from Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs in 1941. Having grown up around the corner from Bob, they married in 1943, and for 70 years Bob always referred to Cap as his bride. Cap had a wonderful sense of humor that carried her happily through life. She loved her family and friends and made a positive impression on all who knew her. She was an avid bridge player, a mixed doubles tennis player who knew to stand close to the net and stay out of her partner's way, and a lover of needlework and puzzles of all kinds. Her "house of a thousand desserts" was known far and wide. Above all, she gave her family everything she could, without reservation —her love, her advice, her guidance, her good taste, and her sense of right and wrong. And she was loved in return, unconditionally.
The family wished to thank Rosa and the wonderful caregivers from Interim. A memorial service will be held in November and burial will be private. Donations in her memory may be made to The Community Hospice of Albany, 445 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205.
