ALBANY – Catherine Holmes DiDonna, 93, died peacefully on Friday, May 20, 2011 at the Teresian House in Albany, NY. Born in Gloversville, NY on August 30, 1917, Catherine was the daughter of the late Marguerite (Early) and George Henry Holmes. She attended Cathedral Academy in Albany, NY and graduated from the Amsterdam College of Business.
Kay married George N. DiDonna on June 15, 1940. Together they raised three children; George J. (Jerry), Sheila, and Phyllis. Kay worked for many years at her husband's side as secretary and bookkeeper for Mack Drug Company and later for the Three D Liquor Store in Latham. She was a past parishioner of St. Ambrose Parish in Latham and an active member of their Fifty-Fivers Club. She loved to travel, play golf and was a wonderful cook. She was currently a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Schenectady. Kay's family was her greatest love; her kindness and generosity to both family and friends will be her enduring legacy.
Kay was predeceased by her husband, George; her sisters, Eileen Holmes and Marguerite Hare; her brothers, George Holmes and Emmet Tyler; and infant grandson, Bryce Martin. Surviving are two daughters, Phyllis Decker and her husband, Robert of Schenectady, and Sheila Martin and her husband, Dennis of West Palm Beach, FL., and son, George DiDonna and his wife, Brigid of Yarmouth, ME; eleven grandchildren, Craig Decker of Edgartown, MA, Catherine Decker Giamalis of Ballston Lake, Debora Martin Soucie of Port St. Lucie, FL, Denise Martin McNamara of Lake Worth, FL, Dawn Martin George of N. Dartmouth, MA, Kellie Martin McMullin of West Palm Beach, FL, Bryan Martin of Royal Palm Beach, FL, Dana Martin Schang of Port St. Lucie, FL, Susan DiDonna DeGrinney of Scarborough, ME, Michael DiDonna of El Paso, TX and Greg DiDonna of El Paso, TX. She is also survived by twenty-six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Infant of Prague Chapel at the Teresian House with a calling hour prior from 10 to 11 a.m. Interment will be at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna.
Her family would like to thank the care givers at Teresian House for their kindness and loving care.
