SLINGERLANDS – Catherine Irma Malcolm, 86, passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 during her stay at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany.
Catherine lovingly known to all as Irma was born on August 10, 1926 in Albany and was the daughter of the late Ira and Catherine E. (Hansen) Malcolm.
Irma was a vibrant woman who captured the attention and love of everyone who knew her. In 1979, Irma became a part of the NYSARC, Inc. family and since May 1999, she resided at 318 Krumkill Road, Slingerlands, NY where she enjoyed a variety of life experience with her friends.
Irma loved music and frequently could be heard singing and humming her favorite tunes or relaxing to the sounds of classical music. Irma has been known to touch the hearts of those hearing her sing her favorite Christmas songs. As a natural artist, one can find her multihued watercolor paintings brightening her home. Irma, a true lady loved wearing beautiful clothes and jewelry and making regular visits to her favorite hair salon.
While participating in the Seniors Level at the Albany ARC for many years, Irma enjoyed many activities such as painting, dancing and having a variety of magazines. During her later years at her Krumkill Road residence, she engaged in several of her favorite activities offered by Lexington Center. She loved painting, shopping, singing, children, concerts, and flowers.
The Albany ARC Guardianship Committee also had the honor and privilege of serving as Irma's guardian, her family and having the opportunity to be part of her life and learn about living through her eyes.
Irma's smile, her strong-will to be her own person and her love for life will always remain in the hearts and memories of her guardians and her Albany ARC and Lexington Center friends. She will truly be missed by all.
On behalf of Irma, her guardians would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the Albany ARC and Lexington Center staff that enriched her life with their sincere caring and dedication to ensuring she had opportunities to grow, to express herself and to live to the fullest. A sincere thank you is also extended to the staff of St. Peter's Hospital Intensive Care Unit who provided Irma with the care she needed in a respectful and compassionate manner.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. A calling hour will precede the service from 12 to 1 p.m. Interment will follow the service at Albany Rural Cemetery in Menands, NY.
