Catherine Johnston Caine

January 2, 1943 — May 28, 2016

Catherine Johnston Caine passed away in the comfort of her home on May 28, 2016. She was at peace, and in her own words, "thankful for the wonderful life I have lived." Her husband, daughter and son, her loving sister Peggy Jones, Granddaughter Hannah Borge, friends and neighbors, all provided Catherine an outpouring of affection, and support. Catherine was profoundly devoted to her family, and as a nurse to the care of others. To the end, she was more concerned about loved ones than herself. As a military spouse and patriot, she believed in the concept of service and with her characteristic strength, wit and humor, handled the challenges and sacrifices she, and her family faced. As well as the love and support she provided her immediate family, she served as a surrogate mother, sister and friend to hundreds of other military wives. She loved quilting, reading, travel, jogging, gardening and the New York Yankees. Throughout her life, being a good wife, and mother, and in her later years being a grandmother were her top priorities.

Catherine attended Nyack High School, and Johns Hopkins School of Nursing. She was passionate about her profession, especially bedside nursing. When she could not practice nursing because of living overseas, she volunteered her time and skills to help others. After retirement, she was an avid supporter and officer in the Charlton Historic Society, and the Glenville Hills Garden Club. Catherine loved all her friends in the Air Force, Charlton, Galway, the Burnt Hills Ballston Lake Rotary Club and most recently, ones at Parkside at the Crossing, and her lifelong friend MaryAnn Packer—and the feeling by all was mutual. When you were a friend of Catherine, it was for a lifetime.

Catherine is survived by Steve, her loving husband of 51 years; son BG John Daniel Caine; daughter Jennifer C. Borge (Brian Wells); Sister Peggy Jones; brother in law Dr. Eric D. Caine; "perfect" Granddaughter Hannah Catherine Borge; beautiful Granddaughters Ella and Addison Caine; nephews Dennis Jones (Lisa) and Adam Caine; niece Megan Caine; and beloved Grand niece Lilia Catherine Jones. She will live in their hearts forever.

The family will hold private services. Interment is at Saratoga National Cemetery.
