Cheektowaga - Catherine (Kay) G. (Leavitt) Atchinson, 82, formerly of Colonie and Saratoga Springs, passed away on Wednesday, April 19, 2006 at the Hospice of Buffalo.
Kay was born on November 28, 1923 in England and was the daughter of the late Henry and Lily (Hemsley) Leavitt.
Kay was an auxiliary member of the American Legion Post #1231 Melvin Road, active with her husband with the National Ex-Prisoners of War and a former member of the Community Reformed Church of Colonie. She was a member of the church choir, where ever they lived, a lifelong bird watcher, loved gardening, and a lover of all animals, especially cats.
Kay was the beloved wife of the late James M. Atchinson, Jr., dearest mother of Lynda Sullivan (Michael) and Gail Tannenhaus (Sid), grandmother of Denise Waldraff (Eric), James Sullivan (Tamara), David and Lauryn Tannenhaus, great grandmother of Mikayla, Nathaniel, Robert (deceased) and Izik. Also survived by brothers, Joseph (Ella) Leavitt, Henry (Irma) Leavitt and a sister, Liz (Donald) Swartz and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 5 p.m. at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m.
Interment will take place on Monday at 10 a.m. at the Gerald B.H. Solomon – Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, NY.
