GUILDERLAND – Catherine Mae Gillespie, 90, passed away Sunday, March 13, 2011 in Albany. Born September 19, 1920 in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late David and Stella Martz.
Catherine moved to Albany with her family and graduated from Albany High School in 1939. She was a loving wife, mother, and caregiver to many family members. Catherine was a volunteer in the Republican Party as a Councilwoman, an active member of the PTA, St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was a gentle woman who loved the Lord, her family, and doing for others. Catherine has now gone on to join her savior, family, and friends.
Catherine was predeceased by her husband of 39 years, Harry G. Gillespie, and her five sisters; Anna Strauser, Lucille Zeyak-Surdam, Edith Wark, Anita Martz, and Hazel Karl.
She is survived by four daughters; Arlene Corrado of Weston, FL; Kathleen Kirkland of Little Elm, TX, Harriet Smith of Wichita Falls, TX, and Debra Urschel of Wynantskill; Six grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 7:30 PM at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Calling hours will precede the service from 5:00 to 7:30 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be in Spring. At the request of the family, contributions may be made to the Cardiac Care Unit at St. Peter's Hospital or the Community Hospice of Albany County, 445 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205.
