EAST GREENBUSH – Cecelia E. Bogue died peacefully at 98 years of age on Wednesday, March 27, 2013. Born in Brooklyn, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Elizabeth Barch. She was a 1936 graduate of Kings County Hospital School of Nursing and received a B.S. from Columbia University in Public Health Nursing. Cecelia worked as a Supervising Nurse for Brooklyn VNA.
A progressive for her time, Cecelia published a redesign on streamlining the black public health nursing bag and wrote a nursing column giving healthy lifestyle advice for Brooklyn newspapers. Later, she received a Master's Degree in School Nurse Teaching from Columbia and enthusiastically worked as a School Nurse Teacher until she retired from Floral Park Memorial High School on Long Island. Cecelia was also a member of the NYS Teachers Association. She and her husband, Ed, retired to Glens Falls and were active in the Glens Falls Senior Citizens. She was a founding member of Rainbow Beach Association on Lake George in Bolton Landing, NY where she and her family summered every year. Cecelia lived independently for 90 years. Known as "Grandma Sis" to her family, she was among the great letter writers, maintaining active correspondence with her many friends, and leaving a portfolio of poems.
Cecelia was the beloved wife of the late Edward J. Bogue. She is survived by her devoted daughters, Barbara B. (Edward) Pieper and Catherine M. Horvath and her son, John E. (Patricia) Bogue. She is the cherished grandmother of Frederick E. Disbrow Jr., Edward L. (Nichole) Pieper, Scott D. Pieper and Gregory B. Pieper and the loving great-grandmother of Edward L. Pieper, V. The family would like to thank the staff at Evergreen Commons who provided skilled care and kindness.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Wednesday from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family. Interment will be at a later date in Bolton Rural Cemetery.
