Cecelia J. Houston

It is with deep sorrow we announce our dear mother Cecelia Juanita Houston passed away on August 16th, 2024, at the age of 85. A loving mother and friend to all she encountered. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness and strength. Cecelia was born in Brooklyn, NY on November 2nd, 1938, to the late Leroy Culley and Cecelia Gaines, she was the eldest of 6 siblings. 

While living in Albany, NY Cecelia met Lewis Thompson Jr whom she married on September 2nd, 1955, and they had five children. Cecelia graduated from Albany Business College and went on to become an executive secretary for the New York State Division for Human Rights and retired from there in 1988. In 1996 Cecelia Married Lee Houston and later became a Reverend. Cecelia loved sewing, knitting and crocheting. Cecelia loved reading her bible, praying for and with others. To know her was to love her. 

Cecelia was predeceased by her parents, 1 sibling (Barbara Culley), 1 loving daughter and son-in law (Pamela and Timothy Owens), former husbands Lewis Thompson Jr. and Arndel Payne and Lee Houston. 

She is survived by her children, Phillip Thompson (Doris)-Gloversville NY, Paul Thompson (Charmaine)-Hampton GA, Perry Thompson (Debbie)-Seabrook SC, Patsy Thompson-Hayes of Clermont FL, 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, 3 sisters Lenora Harmon, Phyllis Banks (Johnny), and Leah Culley, 1 brother Leroy Culley and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
