ALBANY – Charles Bradford Chandler, 78, passed away on Saturday, August 21, 2010 at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center in Guilderland, after a short illness.
Charles was born on June 19, 1932, in Stoneham, MA and was the son of the late Charles Lester and Helen Emily (Brock) Chandler. He played football for Union College, and graduated in 1956 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He also obtained an M.S. in Mathematics from Union College in 1963.
Charles joined General Electric after college, where he worked for 37 years. Starting off as a computer programmer, he eventually moved into the budding field of telecommunications. He won many awards in his career and retired in 1992. He spent his final years enjoying books in the Avila Retirement Community in Albany.
Charles is survived by his wife, Carol J. (MacDonald) Chandler; his daughter, Catherine Chandler; his sister, Florence Johnston; and three nieces and nephews, Mark Johnston, Ruth LaBrie and David Johnston.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association of NENY Pine West Plaza, Bldg. 4, Suite 405, Washington Ave. Ext., Albany, NY 12205 in memory of Charles Bradford Chandler.
