Charles L. Brown

August 17, 1937 — January 15, 2020

Charles Ludy Brown was born in Anderson County, SC on August 7, 1937. He died in Guilderland, NY on January 15, 2020.

His family moved to NYC during World War II where Charles attended school and graduated from Central Commercial High School in Manhattan, NY. Charles attended the College of the City of NY where he received a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1960. He served in the Army from September 21, 1961 to September 20, 1963 and was stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Charles worked in various accounting positions until 1974 when he moved to Guilderland, NY and was employed as a Senior Auditor at the State University of New York-System Administration. He worked there until he retired in 2002. Charles attended graduate school while working as an auditor and received a Master of Science from the College of Saint Rose in May 1992. He also became a CPA and was, for years, a member of the NYS Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Charles is survived by his son, Demetrius Brown (Karen) and grandchildren, Jordyn DuBios, Julian Brown, Aiden Brown and Marcus Brown. He is also survived by his sister Brenda (William) Moore and brother James (Betty) Brown and nephews William Moore Jr. (Wendy) and Julian Brown. He is survived by a great nephew, Justin Moore, and great niece, Courtney Moore.

He was predeceased by his parents Ludy and Charlotte Brown.

Charles was known to friends as Charlie Brown and seemed to enjoy the relationship to the cartoon Charlie Brown. He enjoyed jogging, playing tennis and golf. He attended tennis camp while retired to improve his tennis skills. Charlie liked to travel and took many trips in his lifetime around the US and to other countries. He was an avid reader who possessed many books and was at the Albany Library at least once a week to borrow books there. Charlie enjoyed listening to music, especially jazz.

Charlie enjoyed time with family and friends and so enjoyed visits and mail from them in his last years.
Charlie fought a courageous battle with diabetes for 42 years through exercise, diet, medication and doctor's appointments. He was very self-disciplined in this fight and never complained.

Special thanks are offered by the family to the staff at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center who took care of Charlie for three years. They were his support team and through long hours of hard work gave to him not only the physical support he needed but thoughtfulness and kindness. Also special thanks to the Thayer family (especially Susan) who for three years offered Charlie endless friendship and kindness. He was so appreciative and touched by all you did and brought to his life in his last years. Lastly a special thanks to the hospice staff who were with Charlie in the last months and who supplied unselfish hours of time to provide emotional and physical comfort to him. His long journey over, Charlie would be saying thank you to everyone for all for the kindness, comfort and support that you gave to him.
