Albany – Charles Calogero, 90, passed away Monday November 3, 2014 at Albany County Nursing Home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Albany he is the son of the late Michelangelo and Giuseppina Calogero.
Charlie as he was known, left school in 10th grade to help his family. He worked at various places before becoming a certified welder. Charlie proudly served his country in the United States Army. Following his service he was employed by McKinney Steel as a welder for many years until his retirement. He was an avid gardener and loved to share the fruits of his garden with everyone. He loved to do puzzles, watch wrestling, enjoy the sun and show off his golden skin to all. He also enjoyed showing his strength by asking you to, "Squeeze my hand."
Charlie is survived by his son, Michael Calogero and daughter, Lisa (Joe) Calogero-Burbige; his grandchildren, Giovanni, Liliana and Matteo; his siblings, Dante (Louise) Calogero and Americo Calogero; his sister-in-laws, Emma Jane Calogero and Nancy Lucarelli; and his brother-in-laws Sante (Carmela) DiCarlo, Pasquale (Michele) DiCarlo, Lucio DiCarlo and Luigi Gizzi. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and other family and friends. A particular thanks to his niece Donna Calogero who helped countless times throughout his illness.
Charlie was predeceased by his beloved wife Adriana DiCarlo Calogero in 2008. He is also predeceased by his sister-in-laws, Lucia DiCarlo, Marion DiCarlo and Lisa Gizzi.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff of Albany County Nursing Home for the wonderful care and compassion shown to Charlie throughout his illness.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Charlie on Friday, November 7th at All Saints Church, 16 Homestead St., Albany at 9:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to call at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home on Thursday November 6th from 4 – 7 p.m. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park.
