LATHAM - Charles D. Kahl, Jr., 76 of Latham, passed away peacefully on Sunday May 12 at his residence. He was born in Great Barrington, MA and was the son of the late Charles D. Kahl, Sr. and Ruth Hammer Kahl. "Chuck" was a student of Siena College, a US champion skater, and served 6 years in the National Guard. He was an entrepreneur, establishing Charles Kahl Contractors, Inc., a successful paving and excavating company. He went on to Real Estate Development and created 76 Shoppers Village in Menands. He never lost touch with his paving roots and owned and operated Surface Engineers and most recently worked for Bubonia General Contractors until his death.
Chuck was predeceased by his wife Mary Ann Kahl, and his first wife Bettyann Stanley Kahl. He is survived by his daughter Colleen Kahl Robilotto and her husband Michael, and their children Michael, Chaz, and Robert; his son Charles D. Kahl III and his wife Laura; Katherine R. Kahl and her son Christopher T. Hansen, Jr.; Mara, M. Kahl and her son Ethan T. Kahl, and Cassandra D. Kahl. He is also survived by step-children James LaFrank, and Jessica Zajesky and her husband William. He is survived by his sister, Susan Brizzell (Ronald), and sister-in-law Georgianna Kahl. He was predeceased by siblings Beverley Casey (Francis), Marilyn Hunt (John), Ronald J. Kahl, Deborah Kuchta (William). He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be Thursday morning at 10:00 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 5 to 8 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery on Sand Creek Road in Colonie. At the request of the family, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
