COLONIE- Charles E. "Chick" Weir Sr, 91, passed away on Monday, September 14, 2015 surrounded by his loving children and grandchildren.
Chick was born in Albany, NY to the late Albert and Hilda Weir on August 11, 1924. He graduated from Albany High and then went on to work at Central Railroad with his father. After his work at the railroad, Chick began his 30 year career as a glazier at the Local Union. He then went on to retire from the Town of Colonie as a Utility Worker in 1995.
Chick will be remembered for being an accomplished trumpet player. He played for many local bands. He was also a member of the first group of paramedics for the Town of Colonie. He was very proud to be a lifetime member of the Midway Fire Dept.
Chick is predeceased by his loving wife, Ann Weir, and his four siblings.
He is survived by his cherished children: Tari (Bob) Cox, Chick (Karen) Weir, Lori (Bill) Kerr, Gary (Deshan) Weir; his beloved grandchildren: Cori (Mike), Brittany (Jim), Chickie (Kim), Alex (Megan), Justin (Alisha), Lucas, and Isaiah; his sister, Sally O'Neil, and a host of family and friends.
Chick's passion in life was his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by anyone who knew him.
Calling hours will be held at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Albany, NY on Friday, September 18, 2015, from 4:00pm-7:00pm, a funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 10:00am at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Chick's name to the Midway Fire Dept., 1956 Central Ave, Colonie, NY 12205, and the St. Peter's Nursing and Rehab Center, 301 Hackett Blvd, Albany, NY 12208. The family would like to thank the entire nursing home staff for their love, kindness, hugs, kisses, thumbs up, and smiles over the past two years. And a special thanks to the Midway Fire Dept. and friends for all the good times he had. FIRST OF THE DAY!
