GUILDERLAND – Charles F. "Charlie" Verch, 89, was reunited with his beloved wife Elsie on Tuesday, August 7, 2012, after a long illness. Born in Albany, he was the son of the late Raymond and Ellen Verch. Charlie had resided in Guilderland since 1952. He was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army serving his country during World War II. Charlie worked for the former Bond Bread in Albany for over twenty years then worked for the New York State Police for twenty years before retiring in 1990. Charlie was also a funeral director and had worked for Brunk Funeral Home in Voorheesville as well as other funeral homes in the area. He loved all dogs, playing the organ and reading. Charlie had the "gift of gab" and will always be remembered as a kind, loving and patient man who always put others before himself.
He leaves behind his devoted children to cherish his memory, Maureen Verch of Guilderland, Lynn (Donald) Frangella of Schenectady, Sharon Verch of Guilderland and Charlene "Charlie" (Byron) Barnes of Sharon, CT. Charlie is the cherished grandfather of Dennis (Meghan) Tyson, Jr. of Guilderland and the loving great-grandfather of his "little jewel", Brynn Tyson. He is the loving brother of Ellen (Phillip) Reed of Pittstown and the late Raymond, Harold (the late Edna) and Richard Verch. He is the brother-in-law of Mary Verch of Moorhead City, NC and Alice Verch of Clifton Park. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews and his devoted aide of six years, Mary G.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at NewComer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Calling hours will be Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Memory Gardens, Colonie with his wife Elsie, whom he missed deeply since her passing. Charlie's wishes were that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions should be made to Community Hospice of Albany, 445 New Karner Rd., Albany NY 12205 or Western Turnpike Rescue Squad, 200 Centre Drive, Albany, NY 12203 in memory of Charles F. Verch.
