Obituary for Charles Fairman
ROTTERDAM- Charles Fairman, 76, passed away on Saturday, October 8, 2011 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Rotterdam, he was the son of the late Harry and Mary Fairman.
Charles graduated from Draper High School and was awarded a scholarship to Rennselaer Polytechnic Institute. However, he decided to serve his country in the Marine Corps., at 18 years of age. While serving overseas in Japan, Charles and his unit aided a local orphanage and protected many during a terrible riot. Upon his return, he married the love of his life, Joan M. (Callahan) Fairman, who predeceased him last November.
Charles worked for the United States Postal Service, where he was promoted from Mail Carrier to Labor Facilitator. He served as an officer and Vice President of NALC Labor Union, Branch 358. In his free time, he enjoyed golfing, and was considered an avid outdoorsman. Charles and his late wife spent several years as "Snowbirds", living the winter months in Nalcrest, FL.
His friends were many and lifelong. His humor was legendary. He was a gentleman and a true and loyal man.
Charles was the beloved father of Maryann (Mick Martin) Fairman, Connie (Tom) Gardner, Janet Tetrault, and Linda (Mark) Tripoli; grandfather of Sarah, Robert (Virginia), Marlena (Jory), Mike (Amanda) and Nick (Danielle); great-grandfather of Kadyn, Johnny, Aaron, Tristan, MacKenzie, Tayler, and Dylan, and brother of Maryann and Sue.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 9:00 am at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Calling hours will be from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Sts. Cyril and Method Cemetery, Rotterdam. Memorial Contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Schenectady, 1411 Union Street, Schenectady, NY 12308 in Charles'name.
