Charles J. Mahar

Selkirk- Charles J. Mahar, 70, passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2016, suddenly at home with his loving daughter and son.

Charles was born in Albany, NY on February 3, 1946, to the late Thomas and Isabella Mahar. He was a graduate of Phillip Schyler High School, and went on to work for Sterling Winthrop Research Institute, for 26 years. He also worked for Our Lady of Mercy, and The Eddy nursing home. Charles married his high school sweetheart, the late Cheryl Mahar. He was a devoted husband and caregiver. They were married for 49 years. Charles will be remembered for his love of bowling, golfing, trips to the ocean, visiting light houses, and most of all spending time with his family and friends.

Charles is predeceased by his loving wife, Cheryl, and his sister, Rosemary Schetzel.

He is survived by his children; Judith (Thomas) DeMarco, Michael (Heather) Mahar, his grandchildren; Stephanie, Tyler, Jacob, Joshua, Joseph, and James, his brothers; Robert, Thomas, James, and Paul Mahar, and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends, and his buddy "Dexter" the beagle.

Calling hours will be held at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205 on Friday, February 12, 2016 from 4:00pm-7:00pm. A funeral ceremony will be held at the funeral home, on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 10:00am. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Glenmont, NY.
