Colonie- Charles K. Witter, 77, passed away at The Avenue Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Schenectady on Tuesday, January 31, 2006 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in NYC, he was the son of the late Keith and Ruth Witter. Chuck was predeceased by his infant son David C. Witter.
In his younger years, Chuck enjoyed assisting his father with his outboard power boat racing. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War leaving the military with the rank of Corporal. Chuck was a member of the Teamsters Local #294, the Capital Newspaper Guild, the American Legion #1256, and the Albany, Troy, and Schenectady Musicians Unions. Chuck was an avid drummer and a member of the "Noteworthy's", a band that he founded. He enjoyed jazz music and was a collector of numerous jazz CD's, tapes, and records. He was a sports enthusiast who enjoyed the Yankees, Washington Redskins, NASCAR (Jeff Gordon), and automobile racing. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially with his only granddaughter, Jacqueline, attending many of her soccer and bowling events in which she participated. A jovial, light hearted soul, Chuck loved to joke and tease, always keeping everyone on their toes. He took great pleasure in heckling Jeff, Jacqueline's fiancé, about the Boston Red Sox. He loved and looked forward to his yearly vacation in Cape Cod with his family. Chuck was the first in his neighborhood to help out. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the nurses and staff at the Cancer Care Center and at St. Peter's Hospital, The Avenue Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and to the Doctors who took great care of Chuck and supported the family during their time of need.
