Charles L. Holmes

ALBANY – Charles L. Holmes, 92, died on Sunday, May 9, 2010 at Van Rensselaer Manor Nursing Home in Troy.
Born in Albany, he was the son of the late Theodore Holmes and Nora Lamb Holmes. He graduated from Vincentian Institute in 1936 and served in the Army Air Corp in the European Theater as a radio operator on a B-17 during WWII.
Charlie worked as a welder and car-knocker for the New York Central Railroad for 30 years and then as a welder for General Electric in Schenectady until retirement in the early 80's. He was a proud grandfather, an avid golfer, and fan of whatever baseball team was playing against the Yankees.
Charlie is survived by his daughter, Marianne (Peter) Lofrumento of East Greenbush and his grandson, John (Kerry) Lofrumento of Malta. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in 1990 by his wife of 45 years, Florence McCormick Holmes. He was also predeceased by his sister, Elizabeth Gosh and his brothers, Donald, Melvin, Thomas and Chester Holmes.
The family would like to extend its appreciation to the staff of Van Rensselaer Manor Nursing Home for their excellent care during his stay there. Deep gratitude is also extended to the staff of Rensselaer County Hospice for their compassion and dedication.
Funeral service will be held at 9:00 a.m. Friday at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie, (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.) then to Mater Christi Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at10:00 a.m. Calling hours will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Rensselaer.
