Niskayuna- Retired GE Research and Development Center Metallurgist and Liason Scientist, Charles M. McFarland, 87, died on Thursday, March 8, 2007 at his Niskayuna residence. Mr. McFarland was a graduate of the University of Dayton with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He was a lifetime member of the American Chemical Society and earlier in his career was a Chemical Engineer with the New Jersey Zinc Company, Pennsylvania. Charles was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during WWII in the Asiatic Pacific Theater, Philippine Liberation, and Japan as Lieutenant JG.
Charles was born in Dayton, Ohio and lived most recently on Cape Cod, where he enjoyed retirement with his wife Dorothy. Charles and Dorothy were both Master Gardeners and enjoyed a lifetime interest in Orchids and Passiflora. Charles was also a member of the Passiflora Society.
Charles M. McFarland is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy and their three children, Lynn, Cynthia and Patrice. He is also survived by his four siblings and their families; Don and Mary McFarland of Ohio, Keith and Luella McFarland of California, Betty and Phil Norton of Ohio and Dottie Kuba of Ohio. Charles and Dorothy also have two grandchildren, Jennifer and Brent and one great-grandchild Celine.
