TROY - Charles W. Marshall III, 88, passed away after a brief illness Monday, December 4, 2023, at the Albany Medical Center. He was born on January 17, 1935, the son of the late Charles and Katherine Marshall.
Charles graduated as Valedictorian from Heatly High School and with an Associates Degree from Hudson Valley Community College. He was employed for 43 years in the Coated Abrasive Division at the former Behr-Manning /Norton Company in Watervliet, retiring as a Senior Product Engineer.
Charlie or Chuck as he was known to his friends served for 33 years in the Naval Reserve and retired as a Chief Warrant Officer (CW04). During his lifetime, he was very active serving in the community. He was active in the Speigletown volunteer fire department serving in a variety of roles including President and Fire Commissioner. Chuck was an active outdoorsman and hunter who was a proud lifelong member of the NRA. He served on the Board of the Watervliet Fish and Game Club and held the offices of Vice President and Membership Secretary for many years. In addition, Charlie was an active volunteer on the USS Slater in Albany and at the Empire State Aero Sciences Museum (ESAM) in Schenectady. Chuck served as Treasurer and on the Board of Directors for the Capital District chapter of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA).
In addition to his parents, Chuck was predeceased by his loving wife of 66 years, Nancy K. Marshall (nee Williams) who died March, 8, 2023.
Chuck is survived by his two sons, Wes (Debbie) of North Greenbush and Todd (Barbara) of Broadlands, Virginia. He was a proud, adoring Poppi to his four grandchildren, Jason, Ryan, Olivia and Chloe.
Always a prankster, he enjoyed retelling the many stories of family camping trips, including teasing his children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews with stories about the fictitious "Sacandaga Sea Monster" and the "Sidehill Clincher".
Calling hours will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals , 181 Troy Schenectady Rd., Watervliet, New York on Friday, December 8, 2023 from 10:00am to 12:00pm with a funeral service to begin at 12:00pm. Burial will follow the service at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, New York.
