Loudonville- Charles J. Murphy, 84, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 surrounded by his family. Born in Jersey City, NJ he was the son of the late Charles and Raphael Murphy. Chuck is survived by his wife of 63 years, Nancy Murphy.
He spent his early years in Jersey City, moving to Plattsburgh, NY. where he graduated from Mount Assumption. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Commerce and Economics from the University of Vermont, where he lettered in baseball and was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity and the R.O.T.C Program. He received a Master's in Public Administration degree from SUNY Albany.
He served in the U.S. Army as a 1st Lt. assigned to the Quartermaster School as an instructor. He was employed as a Dealer Salesman for the Exxon Corp. before starting a career with the State of New York that included positions of Director of Personnel and Director of Human Resource Planning and Analysis with the Dept. of Mental Hygiene, and Director of program Planning and Analysis for the Dept. of Civil Service. He was twice elected Chair of the NYS Personnel Association. He was an Adjunct Instructor of the Masters of Public Administration Program Evening Division of Russell Sage College and a partner in the management consulting firm of Hall, Murphy and Reinhart. Upon full retirement he worked part time with the volunteer consulting firm; Executive Corps of The Tri City (ESCOT), serving as project manager, Executive Director and Board member.
He enjoyed many activities and hobbies, including extensive travel within and outside the country with his wife Nancy. He also liked golfing, fishing, drawing, painting, reading and landscaping his own home. But his primary source of his enjoyment was his family.
In addition to his wife, Chuck is survived by his children; Lynette Houlahan (Kevin), Susan Briddell (Bryan), Diane Groezinger and Richard Murphy (Melissa Murdock). He was the loving grandpa to; Andy, Kate, Dan, Jake, Kelsey, Taylor and Sam and his great grandson Reid.
A memorial Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, March 22, 2021 at 10am at St. Pius X, 23 Crumitie Rd, Loudonville, NY 12211. A private interment will full military honors will follow at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
