Charles O. Norling

NISKAYUNA – On Thursday, January 3, 2013, the world lost a kind and compassionate soul when Charles O. Norling, 59, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly. Charlie was born in Brooklyn in 1953 to Agnes and Gunnar Norling. He was a contractor and master carpenter who built and remodeled many homes in and around the Capital District. Everyone who knew him will remember him not only as the man who could fix anything, but a man with a heart of gold who could always make you smile and was always there to listen and lend advice.

Charlie was married on September 26, 1986 to the love of his life, Donnarae (Skelley)Norling. He is the cherished father of Caitlyn Alyssa of New York City and Taylor Christian of Boston, MA. Charlie adored his two sweet beautiful sisters, Desiree Norling of Niskayuna and Sylvia (Dennis) Elkin of Niskayuna. Also surviving is his mother-in-law, Marion Skelley of Colonie whom he considered his second mother, his brother-in-law, Donald Skelley of Colonie for whom he held a special place in his heart and his brother-in-law Michael Skelley of Loudonville and his wife, Paula whom he considered a special friend. Charlie is also survived by three nieces, Jaclyn Elkin of San Diego, CA, Jill (Keri) Skelley of Albany and Jennifer (Kathleen) Skelley of CT and one nephew, Geoffrey (Meghan) Elkin of San Diego, CA. Last, but not least, his beloved dog, Rilee, who will forever be waiting for him to come home.

Charlie, I know yesterday God said to you, "You have worked hard my son, it's time to come and rest. Good job."


A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. at New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Calling hours will precede the service from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. At the request of the family, memorial contributions would be appreciated to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 in memory of Charles O. Norling.
