NISKAYUNA – Charles P. Mongin, Sr., 82, of Niskayuna, died on Saturday, May 15, 2010 at Ellis Hospital surrounded by his wife and children.
Charles was born in Johnstown, NY on August 18, 1927. He was the son of the late Patrick J. and Marie A. Mongin. He graduated from Christian Brothers Academy and attended the University of Florida. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict serving in the U.S.M.C. He was employed by the General Electric Company for many years serving in various capacities.
Charles was a member of the Elfun Society, Past Vice President of the New York State B.P.O.E., Past Commander of the Albany County American Legion, Past Commander of the Fort Orange Post #30 and Past Commander of Chapter 88 Disabled American Veterans in Schenectady.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 60 years, Therese J. (Golembieski) Mongin; his daughters, Susan (Joseph) Lazzari, Kathleen (Samuel) Salamone, and his son, Charles P. Mongin, Jr. Also survived by seven grandchildren, Joseph M., Michael A. (Stephanie Bush, fiancée), Theresa A. and Mathew C. Lazzari, Samuel J. (Meredith), Christopher A. and Santino A. Salamone. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 8:00 a.m. Thursday at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.) then to St. Helen's Church, 1803 Union St., Niskayuna where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday form 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be held at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.
